Our consultants do not prune trees and do not remove them. That is deliberate. Paperbark Technologies is an arboricultural consultancy, so the advice in our reports has no work attached to it and no conflict of interest sitting behind it. Zana Sheary founded the firm, and we have been advising on tree health, safety and urban forest management across Perth for over 20 years.

An arboriculture report from us sets out a tree's health, its condition and what it means for public safety, in a form a council, a court or an insurer will accept. Where you want an answer on the spot, an onsite verbal consultation and Visual Tree Assessment will give you one. Quantified Tree Risk Assessment puts a number on the risk rather than an opinion, and we are QTRA registered and ISA TRAQ qualified to carry it out.

For development work we prepare Tree Protection Plans and Tree Protection Specifications, run root zone and impact assessments, and back council planning applications and DAs with the tree protection zone evidence councils ask for. On site we work as arborist spotter and construction supervisor, so what is written into the plan is what actually happens around the machinery.

GIS tree inventory and tree surveys map and track whole tree populations for councils and asset managers. We run aerial inspections by elevated work platform or by climbing, because a structural problem is usually up in the canopy rather than visible from the lawn. For pest and disease diagnosis we use soil testing and tissue analysis, and PiCUS Sonic Tomography where the question is what the inside of a trunk looks like without cutting into it. Our team is DPIRD trained for polyphagous shot hole borer.

Tree valuations using the Helliwell and Burnley methods put a financial and ecological figure on a tree for legal, insurance or development purposes. We also advise on disputes over neighbouring or council trees, including root encroachment and damage to infrastructure, and we take on planting, fertilisation and habitat creation and protection. Our clients are local governments, developers, property managers and homeowners right across Perth and Western Australia.

Our consultants hold qualifications running from Certificate III in Arboriculture to a Diploma of Arboriculture, ISA Certified Arborist credentials and a degree in conservation and wildlife biology, and we are members of Arboriculture Australia, Arb West and the International Society of Arboriculture.
