Everything up here is timed against the wet. The job worth getting in early is cyclone preparation: weight taken out of the canopies, dead wood out of the crowns, and an honest assessment of the trees that will not stand up to a big blow. Once one has been through, our storm clean-ups put the block back in order, from the branches on the lawn to the tree that has come down across the drive. We work from Knuckey Lagoon, just outside Darwin, across the Northern Territory.

We employ three qualified arborists and climbers at Paradise Tree Services and run up to three tree crews plus a stump grinding team of its own, which makes us one of the largest and most qualified privately owned arboreal companies in the Territory. What that means on your job is that more than one crew can be working at a time, and that the stump grinding team follows the removal crew through instead of being booked separately three weeks later.

Pruning or removing a tree, a large one especially, is dangerous work, and it belongs with people who are trained and equipped to be up there. Having qualified arborists on the crew is what ensures the work is carried out to Australian Standards, we hold an excellent safety record, and everyone is in regular ongoing safety training. Proper tree care is an investment that pays back, too: a well cared for tree is attractive and adds considerable value to a property, while a poorly maintained one becomes a liability, and the difference between them is what has been done with the saw over the years.

Not every job needs a crew on site. Arboreal consultancy and written reports and advice are available on their own, so when you need somebody qualified to set down what a tree is doing, whether it is worth keeping and what the risk looks like if it stays, you can have that without a truck turning up at all. Behind the paperwork sits the everyday pruning and removal work and the crews who do it. The tree side also sits alongside the group's landscaping, grounds maintenance, retail nursery and landscape supplies, so a job can keep going past the stump and into what replaces it.
