We don't fell trees or grind stumps. Philip Jackson Arborist and Tree Management Services is a consulting practice, so what you get from us is an assessment and a report you can act on, hand to a council, put before a tribunal or send to an insurer.

Behind the reports is Philip Jackson, who has close to 20 years in the industry. He holds a Diploma of Horticulture in Arboriculture from Ryde TAFE, a BSc in Botany and Environmental Studies from UTAS, a BSc with Honours in Plant Ecology from UNSW, and an Associate Diploma of Applied Science in Amenity Horticulture from CSU. He is a QTRA certified advanced practitioner and a VALID certified tree risk assessor.

Tree risk assessment is work we scale to the client. It might be the one tree in a back yard that has started to worry you, or it might be a golf course, a school, a caravan park or a local council with hundreds of trees spread over a large area, each with its own function and its own risk factors. Tree inspections cover a tree's health and vitality and its structural condition, and we can identify pests and diseases and advise on how to manage them.

If you are building, we prepare preliminary tree assessments, development impact assessments and tree protection plans, and we can stay involved for construction supervision so the protection measures are actually followed once the machinery is on site. For landowners and asset managers we build tree inventories and surveys using GIS and mapping technology, write tree management plans for the long term health and structure of valuable trees, and produce high level strategic planning and policy work: urban forest strategies, tree management policies, tree risk strategies and tree planting plans.

Where a tree needs a closer look than you can get from the ground, we arrange climbing inspections with Tasmania's most experienced and qualified climbing arborists, and advanced structural diagnosis using sonic tomography to detect and quantify wood decay and strength loss. When a tree has already come down and damaged property, in a storm or through a structural defect, we carry out insurance investigations, and we give expert witness evidence and advice for the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and Magistrates Court hearings.
