About This Business
Jordan Preece spent more than ten years working on trees around Australia and the United Kingdom before launching Proper Tree Care in 2021, and the range of trees, terrains and technique he picked up in that decade is what the business got built on. It is still small and family run, out of Coburg on the north side of Melbourne's CBD. The core values he set then are the ones we still work to: responsible and ethical management of trees, environment preservation, honesty and transparency, personalised service, and safety at every step.
From the Melbourne CBD out through the leafy outer suburbs and down to the Mornington Peninsula is the ground we cover, and if you are further afield than that it is worth a conversation before you assume the answer is no. What we do best is high climbing and difficult access, the tallest trees and the smallest gaps to get them out through, which is technical work in places that are awkward to reach. Not every tree worker trims, prunes and dismantles in line with Australian Standards. We do.
The service that says the most about how we think is habitat creation. Instead of taking an old or dead tree out altogether, we carve hollows into the standing timber with a HollowHog, so what is left becomes a nesting site for local wildlife and the tree keeps doing something useful. The same instinct sits behind tree cabling and bracing, which gives structural support to a tree at risk of splitting or breaking, and behind tree transplanting, which relocates a tree to a spot where it will actually thrive. Removal is the last option we reach for.
The everyday work is tree pruning and maintenance, done to preserve the balance and structure of a tree and support how long it lasts, and hazardous tree removal for the cases where a tree truly does have to come out. That takes in large scale removals, dismantling in tight backyards and site clearing. Stump grinding follows so you can replant or reuse the space, and our hedge trimming is the heavy duty sort, for the jobs too big for an average gardener. At the other end of it sit tree management and tree assessments: a full examination of your trees on site, an explanation of the condition they are in, and a written arborist report where one is called for.
When a serious storm comes through, the properties it hit get priority from us, and our 24 hour emergency services and insurance claim work exist for exactly that, whether the tree is on the roof, through the fence or across the car. Public liability cover runs to 20 million dollars, we are OH&S compliant under WorkSafe, and we sponsor the Victorian Tree Industry Organisation. Ring (03) 8488 7277 or ask us for a quote, and we will come out and tell you what your options genuinely are.
