When we turn up to a storm job the first hour goes on making it safe. That means exclusion zones around the failed stem, hanging branches and broken sections brought down, temporary bracing or cabling on anything still standing but compromised, a tarpaulin over a roof strike, and the driveway and footpath open again. Safeguard Tree Services runs a qualified 24/7 emergency and storm response crew out of Pakenham, working with climbers and an EWP, and we will travel up to 50km for a complex incident.

Our crews are AQF Level 3 and Level 5 qualified. Pruning is done to AS 4373, retained trees on development sites are protected to AS 4970, and we assess risk using ISA TRAQ rather than a glance from the footpath. We carry $20 million public liability and current workers' compensation, and the number you get is a fixed price worked out after somebody has walked the site, not a figure over the phone.

Tree removal deals with the ones that have to go, whether that is age, disease, storm damage or a tree sitting too close to a building or the pipes. The other half of it is tree pruning, the weight and canopy work that keeps a tree sound and worth keeping. Stump grinding follows on behind the saw, and hedge trimming and wood chipping take care of the rest of what a block throws up.

Palm trees get their own treatment, so we clean, prune and remove them as separate work rather than lumping them in with everything else. Lot clearing and vegetation work gets a site ready for building, and we check the council overlays before anything comes out of the ground.
