Silky Tree Care was started in 2017 by Mieko and runs as a four person crew out of Tyagarah, between Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads. Between them the team has more than 20 years of combined experience in the trade, and they hold AHC30816, the Certificate 3 in Arboriculture, along with climbing and elevated work platform tickets.

Tree removal is the main line of work, from a single dead tree in a backyard through to commercial tree services on a managed site. With an EWP on the books, a tree too far gone to climb safely can still be taken down from the bucket. Pruning and maintenance covers the ongoing side, whether that is lifting a canopy up off a roofline or taking deadwood out of a mature tree before it drops on its own. The company will also put a property on a long term maintenance program rather than only turning up once something has already gone wrong, which suits commercial sites and larger residential blocks where the same trees need attention every year. Stump grinding finishes off a removal.

The plant is a fair size for a crew of four: 15 inch wood chippers, a loader, tipper trucks, a stump grinder, an EWP, and 4x4 vehicles for getting out to quote. Silky runs Vermeer, Avant and Stihl gear. Chipping and mulching is done on site, and at 15 inches most limbs go through whole rather than being cut down to size first, which keeps the job moving and cuts the number of truck loads off the property. Green waste leaves as mulch instead of being carted off in one piece.

Emergency tree work is available 24/7 across Byron Bay and the surrounding shire, taking in storm response and after hours call-outs where a tree has failed and has to be dealt with that night. The company states it completes all work within local council requirements. It also carries 20 million dollars of public and products liability insurance, which is the sort of cover strata managers and commercial clients want sighted before a contractor sets foot on site.
