About This Business
In 2017, after years working for other companies in the trade, Mieko started Silky Tree Care and built it up a step at a time. It is a four man team now, working out of Tyagarah north of Byron Bay and covering the coast from Tweed Heads down to Lismore, taking in Byron Bay, Myocum and Mullumbimby along the way. Between us we hold AHC30816, the Certificate 3 in Arboriculture, along with climbing and elevated work platform tickets, and there is better than 20 years of combined industry experience across the four of us.
The work runs from a single dead tree in a back yard through to commercial tree services on a managed site, and the same crew turns up for both. Where a tree is too far gone to be climbed safely, the elevated work platform gets us to it from the bucket and it still comes down in pieces we control. We do the pruning and maintenance as well, lifting a canopy up off a roofline or taking the deadwood out of a mature tree before it comes out on its own, and chipping and mulching is done on site so the green waste leaves as mulch and there are fewer loads going off your property. Our gear is Vermeer, Avant and Stihl, and everything is run in line with Australian standards.
Before anything comes down, it is worth knowing where you stand with the council, because the rules change between council areas, between species of tree and between property types. In Byron Shire you need to check the council's position before you commit to a removal. In Ballina Shire it depends on which part of the shire you are in and how the land is zoned, and the council will tell you on 1300 864 444. The Richmond Valley area requires approval to lop, remove or cut trees and vegetation. Over in Lismore, a Tree Preservation Order means consent is needed for pruning as much as for removal. We complete all our work within those local council requirements, and we will tell you which of them applies to your address before we price anything.
We carry 20 million dollars of public and products liability insurance, which is the cover a strata manager or a commercial client wants sighted before a contractor sets foot on the property. The phone is open 24 hours for emergency work, for the nights when a tree has failed and dealing with it cannot wait until the morning. Ring Mieko on 0423 640 529 with the address and what the tree is doing, and somebody will come and look at it properly before you are given a price.
