Every job we do is carried out to AS 4373 and AS 4970, the Australian Standards covering pruning and the protection of trees on development sites, and we built our own Integrated Management System around AS/NZS 4801, 14001 and 9001 so that it stays that way on paper as well as on site. STC Arborcare, trading since 1997 as Steve's Tree Cutting, is a family business, 100 per cent Australian owned and operated, working out of the Sunshine Coast.

Steve Berg has been in the industry since 1987. He holds a Diploma of Horticulture in Arboriculture, Queensland Arboricultural Association Qualified Contractor status, a high risk work licence and Level II chainsaw and traffic management tickets. In the mid 1990s the whole business was one small truck and a chipper. Lisa Berg runs the management side with a Diploma of Business Management and a Cert IV in Workplace Health and Safety, and their son Jake holds a Cert III in Arboriculture, is working towards his Diploma, and leads a crew and does the climbing. All of our core staff are qualified arborists, and we bring local arborists and apprentices up through the business rather than hiring them in for a season.

Palms need different handling from hardwoods, so palm cleaning and removal sits alongside tree pruning and tree removal on our list. Stump grinding follows a removal, so you are not left with something to mow around, and land clearing and mulching take care of the bigger blocks. Where the tree you want dealt with needs council sign off before anyone touches it, we sort the council permits out as part of the job.

We run a 24/7 emergency storm clean up service for commercial and private customers alike, so a limb through a fence at nine at night is a phone call and not a wait until Monday. The fleet has grown a long way from that first truck: trucks of various sizes, wood chippers, an EWP, stump grinders and skid steers. That is what lets us handle local government work, construction sites for the likes of Lend Lease, body corporates, real estate agencies and utilities, alongside the residential jobs we started on.

We are based on the Sunshine Coast and work right across South East Queensland. The office runs 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday, with weekends and 24 hour storm work by response or appointment.
