Sturt Stump Cutters is a third generation family business, and we have been operating out of Somerton Park for more than 45 years. John Ellis started it, Russell Ellis ran it for the next 40 years, and his son Hayden is the one you will get on the phone today. Our arborists are experienced and qualified, we are fully insured, and we hold all the certificates needed to work on school grounds and building sites.

Stump grinding is in the name. We bring the right size machine for the site and grind the stump out below ground level, so the ground is clear for whatever comes next, whether that is a slab, a new garden bed, turf or another tree in the same spot.

With tree removal we take on trees of any size. Where a tree is boxed in by a house, a fence or a shed, we use advanced rigging to bring it down in sections instead of felling it whole. Taking a tree out in South Australia is not always simply a matter of booking it in either, so we will walk you through the regulations and any development approval that might apply before anything starts. Tree pruning we do to industry standard practice, weighing up the health of the tree, the safety of whatever sits under it, and the result you are after in the garden.

If your council has asked for an arborist report before it will consider an application, that is what our consultancy side is for. It covers individual tree reports written for council submissions, and full site audits where we go across every tree on a property, assess the health and safety of each one and set out in writing what we recommend doing about it, along with any treatment we think is worth carrying out.

We also offer EWP hire. Ours is a 20 metre insulated elevated work platform and it comes with an operator, so it is available to other arborists working near powerlines, and to electricians and painters who just need to get up there safely.

We look after private residential customers, commercial clients and government departments across Adelaide's western suburbs and southern suburbs, and we head out to the eastern suburbs and the Adelaide Hills as well.
