AQF3 certification and a climbing ticket are what it takes to get on this crew. Our arborists are AQF3 certified, qualified climbers and fully insured, and that is the difference between a tree that can be taken apart piece by piece in a tight spot near a building or a power line and one that has to be left alone. Our founder Tim came to it the long way. He spent years driving the big rigs and looking at the country going past, then traded the highway for high branches, and after two decades earning the certification and the climbing ticket he bought the business outright. Summerland Tree Services has been going since 2005 and has traded under this name since 2013.

We work across the Northern Rivers from our base at Ballina, taking in Lennox Head, Byron Bay, Evans Head and Lismore. What you are allowed to do with a tree changes from one shire to the next here, and some trees are protected and need council approval before anything happens. We know the local rules and we handle the paperwork that goes with them, including the arborist reports a council application hangs on, so you are not the one working out which form belongs to which shire.

Before we quote a removal we will tell you whether the tree needs to go at all. Pruning it or relocating it comes first where that is a real option, and if you have concerns about a tree's health our arborists will assess its condition, diagnose the problem and tell you what we would do about it. When a tree removal is the answer, we dismantle and take it out section by section, then deal with the mess in whichever way suits you: mulching on site so the material stays with you, or the lot carted away and the property left tidy. The mulch we do not leave behind goes to local schools, community gardens and hospitals around the Northern Rivers. Stump grinding takes care of the last of it so you can turf or plant over the spot.
