About This Business
Since 2011 Sydney Tree Works has been running out of Engadine, set up in the Sutherland Shire by Jim Keating and his partner Jane. Jim had already been in tree work for twenty years by then. He served an electrical apprenticeship in New Zealand, came out to Australia in 1989, and ran a tree lopping business in Brisbane from 1991 to 2002 before moving south. That is over 30 years in the industry, and it is still a family owned business.
Jim is qualified on elevated work platforms and on cranes, and has climbed and cut on university grounds, Ausgrid and RMS sites and a number of council jobs. Our staff are TAFE NSW qualified. We carry Public Liability and Workers Compensation cover with certificates of currency current for 2026 and 2027, and we are happy for you to see them before we start. We run best in class equipment, which is what keeps a job moving and the price competitive.
Whole tree removals are the bigger end of what we take on. Where a tree cannot simply be dropped, we dismantle it in sections and run the limbs down on a friction drum rigging device so every piece lands where we intend it to. Tree lopping, pruning and height reductions keep a tree at a size that suits the block it is on, and we will tell you straight whether a tree is worth keeping. We keep a safe and up beat site, and the crew works to the same standard on a single backyard tree as on a full week of it.
We also take on hedge trimming and hedge height reduction, which on the older Shire blocks usually means a privacy screen that has got well away from its owner. Once a tree is on the ground we grind the stump out below ground level, so you can lay turf, pave over it or plant something new without working around what is left.
Our patch is the Sutherland Shire and the surrounding Sydney suburbs, with Engadine and Menai on our doorstep. If the job needs council approval, we will help you through the permit and application process rather than leaving you to work it out. Quotes are free, and we are happy to answer your tree questions whether or not it turns into a job for us. Give us a ring, send a text or message us, tell us what the tree is doing, and we will come out and price it.
