Our pruning is carried out to Australian Standard 4373, Pruning of Amenity Trees, and that is the line between pruning and lopping. A tree cut to the standard can seal the wound and hold its structure. A tree cut arbitrarily throws epicormic shoots, which are poorly attached and prone to snapping out on you later. Once a tree has been pruned it will never look the same again, for better or for worse, so we start by working out how it wants to grow naturally and then encourage it to take that form. Size reduction keeps a tree small through repeated maintenance, though planting something the right size to begin with is the better answer. Formative pruning takes out the poorly grown branches, the crossing limbs and the weak unions so the tree puts its growth into the branches worth keeping, and it works best while the tree is still young. Weight reduction thins or tip prunes the branches, and we take no more than 30 per cent of the canopy off any given branch.

Tree and stump removal is where the rigging equipment earns its place. We are skilled at taking out trees close to houses and other valuable assets, and the rigging is what keeps your property and everything in the garden out of danger while the tree comes down piece by piece. We also handle emergency tree removal and storm damage assessment across the region. Cable bracing is the answer when a tree is worth keeping: we install Yale Brace 4 Tonne dynamic rope, which will support branches over 600mm in diameter, and on a significant old tree with one poor union that is frequently the difference between keeping it and losing it.

For anyone with more trees than they can sensibly deal with one at a time, on a rural block or a commercial site, our arborists put together management plans, a sustainable strategy covering the whole property. Mulching and mulch sales deal with what comes off a job, or deliver fresh mulch to a garden that wants the nutrients and the moisture retention through summer.
