The Tree & Enviro Fella

In 2023 I moved to the Grampians and started The Tree & Enviro Fella out of Stawell. I am Shawn, I work on my own, and I brought six years of tree and environmental work with me. On paper that is a Certificate III in Arboriculture through Arbortrim Australia, a licence to perform high risk work on elevated platforms, an Agricultural Chemical User Permit, traffic control certification and a construction induction white card, with full insurance behind all of it. In practice it means one person turns up, and that person is qualified for every part of the job.

The patch runs across the Grampians and the Wimmera: Halls Gap, Stawell, Ararat, Horsham, Willaura, Glenthompson, Beaufort, Ballarat, St Arnaud, Marnoo and everything in between. Farms, town blocks, roadsides and bush boundaries, and mostly the sort of property where the tree is only half the problem.

That is the reason for the second half of the name. Plenty of tree crews will drop a tree and leave, and the ground around it goes on doing what it was doing. Because I hold the chemical permit, weed spraying is something I can do properly and legally on the same visit, targeted at what actually needs to go, not blanketed across a paddock. Pest animal control is the other side of it: rabbit fumigation for warrens, and contract shooting for rabbit, fox, deer and wild dog. On a rural block those three things, the trees, the weeds and the animals, are one problem with three symptoms, and handling them together is cheaper and quicker than booking three people.

The tree side is straightforward. Tree removal and pruning for the hazardous, the unwanted and the ones worth keeping in shape, stump grinding to turn what is left into mulch and leave the ground ready to landscape, and hedging where a boundary needs holding to a line. Anything up to twelve inches goes through the chipper on site. What comes off gets split rather than dumped, so firewood cutting and log splitting turns your removal into next winter's wood, sized for a fireplace, a stove or a fire pit, and I will do the same with logs you already have lying around.
