The Tree Surgeon

The Tree Contractors Association of Australia has had us on its books since 2000, and more than twenty years in the tree industry sits behind that membership. Bruce Smith directs The Tree Surgeon, holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Horticulture and a Diploma in Arboriculture, and is Level 2 certified for tree surgery. Our work stays close to home, in Orange and the districts around it. We take the view that trees are an asset to a garden and that they need maintenance and a bit of love, which is why we would sooner talk you through keeping a tree than quote you to take it out. Your home is one of the most valuable things you own, and the garden and the trees in it are part of that.

The job that best explains what the qualifications buy you is corrective pruning. A tree that was topped years ago, or cut badly by somebody in a hurry, or that has simply grown into a shape which will eventually fail, cannot be put right in a single visit. It has to be steered back towards a sound structure across several, and knowing which limbs to keep and which to shorten is the part the diploma pays for. Mistletoe removal is on our list too, which is a job most people only start thinking about once they have looked up and worked out what those clumps in their gum actually are.

The rest is the everyday work: tree removal, tree pruning, hedge trimming and hedge cutting for the screens, stump grinding once a tree is out, and wood chipping done on site. We supply and deliver wood chip if you have a use for it, and the crew always cleans up thoroughly before it leaves. Behind all of that sit 20 million dollars of public liability insurance, workers compensation and indemnity cover, with copies of our certificate of currency there for you to look over, plus extensive experience in safe tree access and rigging methods.

Where a tree is still a question and not yet a job, we do tree consultations and written tree reports, and we help put together council tree removal applications for owners who need approval before anything comes down.
