Shallum has worked as a climbing arborist in Western Australia, Scotland and England, and settled in the Snowy Mountains to run Top Notch Tree Management out of Berridale. He is an owner-operator, and because every tree job is different we bring in a team of employees and contractors to suit whatever is in front of us. Residential or commercial, the approach does not change: we weigh up the health of the tree alongside what you actually need out of the job, and land on an outcome that works for both.

Tree removal is where the rigging earns its keep. Advanced rigging techniques let us take a tree down whatever its size and however tight the space around it, which counts for a good deal when the canopy is sitting on a roof or the trunk is standing between two sets of power lines. Some trees, dead ones among them, can come out without council approval, but it pays to check first. Ring the council, ask whether a preservation order is attached, and get the approval sorted before anyone starts, and we are happy to talk that through with you.

There are plenty of ways to prune a tree, and knowing which one suits the tree and the space it stands in is the whole job. Our tree pruning uses practices and equipment that leave the tree healthy and still worth looking at afterwards. Hedge trimming is a specialty of ours, and the two storey hedges most people stand under wondering how anyone gets up there are exactly the ones we want. Stump grinding either follows a removal or clears out old stumps that have been sitting in the yard for years, catching feet and drawing termites towards the house.

Green waste removal puts the pile through the chipper. Keep the mulch and it will feed your garden beds, hold water and tidy the place up, or we will take it away to be used elsewhere. We also carry out onsite tree health assessments when you want a proper read on a tree before deciding anything. And the weather up here turns wild, so emergency callouts are part of what we do: our team is on call at any hour to take the hazard out and make the site safe again.

We service the Snowy Mountains from Jindabyne to Cooma and all the surrounding areas, and we travel further for some clients, so ask if you sit outside the region.
