At great heights or in small spaces is how we describe our own work, and both halves of that get used most weeks. A big gum in the back corner of a block, one side gate, a shed in the way and a fence on the boundary, is not a felling job at all. It is a rigging job, and it is the kind of work Tree Amigos has been sorting out across north and north east Melbourne for more than 14 years. Between our arborists there is over 30 years of experience on the tools.

Removals come with the parts nobody thinks about until they are standing in them. Tree and stump removal includes a full clean up, so the chip, the timber and the mess leave with us and the yard is walkable again the same day. We chip branches, logs and whole trees on site, which is what stops a large removal turning into a week of trailer loads. If the tree is protected we sort the council permit ourselves, so working out what your council requires is not left to you, and where you want the position in writing first, our arborist reports are written to support permit and removal applications. Stump grinding takes out what is left in the ground afterwards.

Our work sits in the northern suburbs and out through the north east. That means Eltham, Diamond Creek, Hurstbridge, Greensborough, Lower Plenty, Templestowe, Warrandyte and Doncaster on one side, with Coburg, Brunswick, Pascoe Vale, Glenroy, Essendon, Mill Park and Craigieburn closer in. We go out past the fringe as well, to Wallan, Sunbury, Gisborne, Riddells Creek, Woodend and Mount Macedon.

Tree pruning and hazard reduction is the standing maintenance work, with deadwood and unsafe limbs taken off before they fail. Fronds and seed heads come under palm tree care, while mulching and site clearing takes on blocks that need cutting back to bare ground, and mulch sales put the chip to use for anyone who wants it delivered. Less common on a tree company's list is possum guard installation, a collar fitted to the trunk to keep possums out of the canopy, made from safe, non-restrictive materials chosen for Melbourne conditions that will not interfere with the tree as it grows.
