About This Business
Josh Nicholas has spent more than 20 years up trees, on two sides of the world. He worked the trade in the United Kingdom before bringing it back to the Macedon Ranges, he holds a Diploma in Arboriculture, and he is the person who turns up when you book Tree Da Vinci. The work is insured up to 20 million, which tends to be the first thing a council or a property manager asks about and the last thing they have to worry about.
The pruning is done to the Australian Pruning Standards, and the range of it is wider than people expect. Formative pruning shapes a young tree so it grows into something nobody has to rescue in fifteen years. On a mature tree the work is usually weight reduction and dead wooding, easing the load off limbs that have grown heavier than their attachment can carry. There is fruit tree pruning and hedge cutting, the topping of conifers, and cabling where a stem or a union needs holding together.
We work the Macedon Ranges and Mount Alexander areas, which takes in Woodend, Gisborne, Sunbury, Tylden, Trentham, Lancefield and Romsey. The run goes wider than that too, from Blackwood through to Daylesford, Castlemaine and beyond, and out as far as Bendigo.
Where tree controls apply in an area, the decision about your tree stops being yours alone, and that is where a report earns its money. Josh prepares impact assessments, preliminary assessments, health and condition reports and risk assessments, which set out the data a council asks for when it is deciding on a permit. Getting that right is what separates a permit from a fine, and it is worth having in hand before the machinery is booked.
Not every tree can be saved. When one cannot, we take out the dead, dying and diseased, along with the self seeded and weed species that were never meant to be there in the first place. Beyond that we keep trees, hedges and shrubs managed on an ongoing basis, give advice on plant health, do tree planting, spread mulch and tidy up a garden that has got ahead of you. We will put up bird nesting boxes for the local wildlife too.
The phone is answered seven days a week, 7:30am to 5pm, and there is a 24 hour emergency call out for the trees that fail outside those hours. If you are weighing something up, the sensible first step is a consultation. Ring Josh on 0431 764 750 and he will come and look at the tree with you before anybody decides what happens to it.
