About This Business

In 2011 Leigh Brennan was Nursery Manager at Andreasens Green when the firm took on the supply of more than 70,000 trees, palms, grasses and shrubs for Barangaroo Reserve. He project managed six dedicated acres of growing ground for it and worked alongside government agencies, landscape designers, soil scientists and consulting arborists, and the full order went in on time four years later. In 2017 he started Tree Management Strategies.

Leigh holds a Diploma of Arboriculture at AQF Level 5, a Diploma in Horticulture, a Cert IV in Business Management and certificates in Agriculture, behind more than fifteen years growing and assessing trees for the landscape industry. Councils want a tree report before they will let you touch anything, and the wording of the request tells you which one you need. We prepare Preliminary Arboriculture Assessments, Arboricultural Impact Assessments, Tree Protection Plans and Hazard Inspection Reports, and we turn them around without you having to chase us for them.

Where a build is going ahead near trees worth keeping, we take on the Project Arborist role on site. That means checking the tree protection plan is being followed rather than filed, root mapping so root systems do not get cut through by an excavator, and watching the health and vitality of the retained trees the whole way through construction.

We also assess nursery stock against Australian Standard 2303 Tree Stock for Landscape Use, before the trees are bought and long before they are in the ground. Buy poorly formed stock and you pay for it twice, once at purchase and again when it has to come out. Our horticultural consultancy work runs wider again: pest and disease management, tree support systems, landscape tree selection, irrigation selection and maintenance, and planting technique. One large Sydney Red Gum we were called to had been infested by wood borer and the owner wanted it kept, so it had a contact spray, a trunk injection and a deep soil injection of root tonic to build the tree up enough to fight the attack.

Because Leigh came up through wholesale nursery management, we run hands-on staff training and development for nurseries as well, covering Australian Standard 2303, staking, pruning and propagation technique on your own site with your own stock.

The work is residential and commercial, and we cover all of NSW: Greater Sydney, the Northern Beaches, and the South Coast and North Coast of NSW. Give Leigh a call or send an email with what your council has asked for, and we will tell you what the report needs to cover and what it will take to get it done.
