A tree can be going backwards for a year before anyone notices, and by the time it is obvious the question has stopped being how to cut it and started being why it is failing. That is the half of arboriculture Treelife Tree Services was built to answer. Troy Porter started the business in Melbourne in 2004, and more than twenty years on we work the eastern suburbs from a base at Ferntree Gully.

There are literally hundreds of pest and tree disease problems, and working out the type and the cause takes experience and knowing where to look. Our tree disease and pest control work starts there. Our elm leaf beetle treatment goes after Xanthogaleruca luteola, a serious pest of the elm, where the beetles and the larvae both feed on the emergent foliage. With tree canopy spraying you are climbing and handling chemicals at height, so the correct procedure has to be followed to the letter. And plenty of what looks like disease is actually underneath the tree, which is where soil management comes in, on root compaction, element uptake and insufficient fungal activity.

Let a tree get too top heavy without the right structure underneath it and you have a genuine threat to people and property, so our tree risk prevention work is about getting the weight and the crown reduced in good time. When you need the assessment on paper, we produce certified arborist reports. Our arborists are certified, we are fully insured, and we hold OH&S certification.

The cutting side has not gone anywhere either. We take on tree removal, tree cutting, tree lopping, tree pruning and tree trimming, with gum tree removal for the big eucalypts that dominate blocks out this way, and stump removal for what a felling leaves behind in the ground.
