About This Business

My name is Gary, and I started Trees Need Tree Surgeons because I believe trees are worth the time, the effort and the investment. That was more than 32 years ago. Since then my team and I have looked after trees across Perth for state government, local councils, schools, businesses, landscape designers, real estate agents, strata managers and a great many local families. We are fully qualified, accredited and insured, we work out of Bibra Lake, and we know the sandy soils here and what does and does not work in them.

When a tree looks like it could be a problem, we use the Quantified Tree Risk Assessment system to work out what that means in practice. A tree risk assessment under QTRA weighs the likelihood of a tree or a limb failing in the coming year against what it would land on and what the tree is worth keeping for. You get a written report on the condition and safety of the tree, which is what a strata committee or a facilities manager needs in front of them before anything is decided.

Bracing and cabling is the surgery for a grand old tree that has started splitting at the crotch, or a heavy limb an assessment has flagged as dangerous. Steel rods or softer cables let the branch or stem support itself while the damage heals, or head off the damage before it happens, and we monitor the tree afterwards to see it comes back strong. Tree health care works the other end of the same problem, with preventative treatment and regular fertilising, and where a tree or shrub already has spots, bugs, dieback or disease, we assess it and treat it.

The everyday work is tree removal, lopping and pruning and stump grinding, and the yard goes back to you cleaner than we found it. Transplanting is the opposite job, and one our crew genuinely enjoy: an established tree can be moved if the lift is planned properly, so we inspect the tree, assess where it is going, shift it with cranes, excavators and HIAB trucks, and look after it while it settles in. Several trees can often travel in the one run, which keeps the cost down. We have done that for a single tree someone was buying privately and for whole commercial plantations. When a storm has been through, we clear the storm damage.

Our team includes tree surgeons, arborists, landscapers, power line clearance inspectors and assistants, and we cover the Perth metro area and the country surrounds. That takes in Bibra Lake, Cockburn, Fremantle, East Fremantle, Hamilton Hill, Spearwood, Coogee, North Coogee, Beeliar, Yangebup, South Lake, Success, Atwell, Aubin Grove, Jandakot, Leeming, Bull Creek, Willetton, Winthrop, Melville, Booragoon, Myaree, Applecross, Ardross, Attadale, Hilton, White Gum Valley, O'Connor and Armadale. No job is too big or too small.
