Our run goes from Mosman Park up to Hillarys, through Perth's northern and western suburbs: Churchlands, City Beach, Floreat, Wembley, Woodlands, Doubleview, Innaloo, Osborne Park, Scarborough, Trigg, North Beach, Marmion, Sorrento, Duncraig, Carine, Karrinyup, Gwelup, Greenwood, Warwick, Dianella, Leederville, Subiaco, Shenton Park, Claremont, Swanbourne, Cottesloe, Peppermint Grove, Nedlands and Dalkeith, with regional work beyond the metro as well. People usually ask us for lopping, and we usually talk them out of it. Lopping, or pollarding, is chosen because it looks like the cheap option, and in most cases it is the opposite. A lopped tree goes into shock, starved of its food supply and its ability to function, and throws forced epicormic shoots that attach to the trunk far more weakly than a natural limb does; those shoots become limbs and end up dangerous. It also opens the tree to the weather, pests and disease, and destroys the balance between its roots and its canopy. Occasionally lopping genuinely is the only option, particularly on a tree that has been lopped before, and we will talk you through where yours sits at quoting stage.

What lets us do the better version is the gear. Our 2018 MONITOR crawler spider lift stows to 792mm by 1951mm, which takes it through a domestic doorway or a side garden gate, needs only three square metres to set up, puts almost no pressure on your lawn, and then reaches 18 metres up and 8.5 metres out on either a diesel motor or a silent lithium battery. The 2015 Vermeer chipper on its NPR 300 Isuzu takes logs up to 15 inches wide and turns a large prune into ten cubic metres of mulch in under an hour. The 2017 RHYSCORP Stump Humper needs a gap of just 780mm and will grind almost any stump in almost any backyard.

From there the work is straightforward: tree pruning and crown lifting to get light back under a canopy and weight off the limbs over the house, trimming and cutting where a tree has closed in on the roofline or the neighbour's fence, and tree removal sectioned down off the lift and chipped as we go, with stump grinding after. We tender for larger contracts, handle strata management work, power line clearance, verge collection and risk management assessments, and run 24 hour emergency call outs. Every job starts with a JSA worksheet and a toolbox risk assessment before anyone touches a saw; our staff carry police clearances, white cards and first aid as a minimum; we are members of the Tree Guild of WA and bound by its code of conduct; and we hold a $20 million public liability policy along with workers and contractors compensation.
