About This Business
A tree in a city is never only a tree. It stands inside a council by-law, a planning policy, a development application and occasionally a court file, and that is the ground Treescience works on. We are arboriculture consultants and urban tree management specialists, which means our end of the work is the assessing, the reporting and the advising, and the saw belongs to somebody else.
Our principal is Jason-Jay Fletcher, who spent seven years as Senior Arboricultural Scientist at Brisbane City Council and holds an AQF Level 8 in arboriculture alongside a master's degree. He sits as an arboricultural expert witness in the Supreme Court of Australia, the Planning and Environment Courts, the Magistrates Court and tribunals including QCAT. Our supervising project arborists hold a minimum AQF Level 5 with five years of post graduate experience, key members sit at AQF Level 6 with more than 35 years across the municipal and private sectors, and the team is certified internationally with the International Society of Arboriculture and belongs to the Queensland Arboricultural Association. We run offices in Queensland and New South Wales and take on projects Australia wide.
The documents we produce have to survive being argued with. Assessments and reporting go to councils and certifiers, expert witness reports go into legal and planning matters where a tree is genuinely in dispute, and as project arborists we supervise trees through planning, design and construction so that a tree marked for retention is still alive when the builders leave. Every consultation we deliver meets the relevant Australian standard, legislation, policy and process, which is how a project gets finished on time, on budget and with your council behind it.
Tree inventories and GIS mapping give councils and large landholders an accurate picture of what they are actually managing, while plant health care and soil science go to work on the trees that are failing for reasons nobody has diagnosed. We consult on urban forestry and on green engineering tree designs, where established trees and new development have to share the same few square metres of soil. Behind all of it sit our laboratory and research services, presentations and training, and the policies, guidelines and strategic management plans we prepare for the authorities that have to enforce them.
Government, commercial and private clients reach us at very different stages, some with a tree already in dispute and some before a single line is drawn on a plan. Either way the first conversation is about what the job genuinely requires, so that nobody pays for a report they never needed. Get in touch and tell us where your project is up to, and we will put you with the right person on the team.
