Urban Forest Care

From our base in Bibra Lake, Urban Forest Care has worked across Perth as an arboricultural service company since 2016. We set out to be responsible custodians of the trees in our care and to improve the urban forest in the communities we work in, and that is still what the business is built around. Michael Jelly is our company director, and the crew runs two arborist team leads and a team of arborists on the tools, with an operations manager and office staff behind them.

Our work runs the whole length of a tree's life. Seed collection and planting sit at one end, pruning carries a tree through its middle years, and complex tree removals sit at the other, for the trees that are beyond keeping or have become a danger to what is around them. Keeping a tree standing is the outcome we look for first, and several of the things we do exist for that reason alone. We take the time to work out what you actually need from the tree before recommending anything, because the benefits a mature tree gives back to a block are hard to replace once it is gone.

Where limbs or branch unions look likely to fail, tree support systems can hold them together and buy the tree decades it would not otherwise get. Root barrier systems steer roots away from footings, paving and pipework so the tree and the built structure can share the block. Targeted treatments take on pests, disease and decline while there is still something worth saving.

Consultations and written arborist reports are for the times a decision has to be documented rather than argued: a development application, a council requirement, a tree you are not sure about before you commit to anything. We also do habitat installations, cutting artificial hollows and roosting space into trees that would otherwise need another century to make their own. If something has ended up stuck in a canopy, we run drone recovery as well.

Not all of it gets billed. We back community groups and planting programs, and we donate trees, time and energy to lifting canopy cover across the suburbs we work in. That commitment is what has driven the growth of the business since we started.
