About This Business

Scarred trees are work we get called in for. Establishing whether a wound on a tree is of Aboriginal cultural origin or has come from one of the many other possible sources takes assessment, analysis and comprehensive reporting, and we do it alongside archaeologists, Aboriginal stakeholders and land managers. Urban Tree Management Australia has carried out that work on Picton Road for Transport for NSW, at Western Sydney University's Werrington campus, at Milperra for Mirvac and at the Cadia Mine at Panuara for Newcrest Mining.

Our team of consultants has more than thirty five years of experience in the arboricultural and horticultural industry, and we are a foundation member of the Institute of Australian Consulting Arboriculturists. We take a co-operative approach, working with environmental managers, architects, landscape architects and development project managers to reach the best multi-disciplinary outcome for the site, and the work runs from an issue with one tree on one property to large stands of trees across a whole development.

For structural integrity reports we drill. Resistance drilling with a Resistograph reads what is actually left inside a trunk or a buttress root, rather than what can be inferred from the outside, and it forms part of a thorough and holistic assessment. City of Sydney Council has us back at Hyde Park every two years to inspect the trunks, buttress roots and crowns through the central corridors of Hyde Park North and South, drill them, and report the scientific findings for tree risk assessment and tree management. We do the same at Alexandria Park.

On the Parramatta Light Rail Project we were the Independent Arborists with APP Corporation, working with the joint venture contractors' project arborists at design stage, construction stage and through systems operation and management. We built and maintained the Independent Arborist Tree Register for that project, co-ordinated every piece of work to trees inside the project envelope, prepared the register submissions that went to Transport for NSW and on to the Department of Primary Industries, issued consent to the contractors, then monitored what was done on the ground. We were project arborists on the Sydney Light Rail Project as well, and we have surveyed and risk assessed the trees at nine railway stations for Sydney Metro.

The reporting side takes in hazardous tree risk assessment, Development Application assessment, preliminary site assessments, pre-purchase site consultations, tree valuations, significant tree reports, heritage property assessments, root mapping interpretation and tree survey assessments. We give policy advice to individuals, companies and all levels of government, appear as expert witness in the Land and Environment Court, report on insurance claims, and stay on for ongoing site management where trees have to be protected through a development.

We offer our services mainly in the Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong regions, and we will take work in other regions on application. Ring Danny and tell us what you are dealing with, or send the details through the enquiry form and we will come back to you.
