Clearing trees back from overhead power lines is tightly regulated work, because legislation sets how close a tree is allowed to grow to the network in an urban area. Woodpecker Tree Services holds ActewAGL and Evoenergy accreditation to carry out that clearance, and our arborists are trained to work at height in the vicinity of the power supply, whether that is scheduled power line clearing or a tree brought down onto the lines by a storm. The accreditation sits on top of everything else we have been doing since 2003, when we started looking after trees around Canberra from our base at Farrer. We're a family owned and operated business, fully insured and qualified, and we work across the ACT, over the border in Queanbeyan and out into the local rural areas.

Plenty of Canberra properties give a tree nowhere to fall. Where access is limited or the space is tight, we put climbing arborists into the canopy and bring equipment sized to fit, and the tree comes out in pieces from a spot no truck could ever reach. Our climbers get up a tree without using spikes, so the trunk of anything that's staying isn't wounded on the way past, and the cuts we make follow current Australian standards. Where a tree stands hard against a building, a fence or a power line, the job needs extra safety measures and specialised gear, which is why we price that sort of work from an on-site inspection, not over the phone.

Alongside that we take on tree felling for domestic jobs, commercial site works and large complex removals, on residential and rural properties alike. Tree and hedge pruning, deadwood removal and the limb and structure interference of a branch that has settled onto a roof, a gutter or a fence line all come off the same truck, and we grind the stump out afterwards when you want the ground back for lawn, garden or paving. Everything that comes down is chipped on site and carted away, and we recycle as much of it as we can into mulch or firewood where the timber is worth keeping. From private homes and rental properties to apartment grounds and commercial establishments, it's the same crew doing the work.

Before a tree comes out, approval is often needed here, particularly for a protected tree or one over a certain size, and we know the local rules well enough to walk you through the application.
