Your backyard can be reached from the street. That is the short version of what a crane changes on a tree job: a rotten or dangerous tree that would be too risky to take down on ropes comes out in controlled lifts, a stump grinder gets set down in a spot nothing could drive to, a fallen tree is picked off a roof in one movement, and several trees can come out of a single set-up, which is where the saving turns up on the invoice.

There are two cranes in the yard at Knuckey Lagoon, a 30 tonne Tadano and a 13 tonne Kato, and we are the only tree company in the Territory carrying two different sizes in its fleet. For anything larger than either of them we have access to cranes up to 130 tonne. Xtreme Garden Care has been in the tree industry for over 20 years across domestic and commercial work, and however close a tree is standing to your house, the lift is navigated around the structure without damage to the building or the landscape.

Our tree pruning runs across Darwin, Palmerston and the rural blocks, and it is not one job but several. Selective pruning takes out the branches tapping a building or obstructing vehicles while the tree keeps its structure, crown lifting clears the space underneath, crown thinning lets light and a view back through, line clearance keeps the gap around power and telephone services, remedial pruning deals with damaged branches, deadwooding gets the dead limbs out before the next blow drops them, formative pruning shapes a young tree so it does not develop a weakness, and palm pruning gets the old fronds and fruit clusters down. Council restrictions vary, so it is worth checking with yours before we start.

Trees up here fail for particular reasons, and plenty of them have nothing to do with a storm. Limbs drop from heat stress, saturated soil loosens the ground and lifts a whole tree out of it, cavities and split branch unions give way, weak regrowth from a lopping that was done badly years ago lets go, and termite damage hollows out a trunk that still looks solid from the footpath. Our 24 hour emergency service is for when one of those happens overnight. We secure the property and the remaining trees so other trades can get on site and do their work, and we guide you through covering part or all of the cost through your home and contents insurance, because insurance work is a standing part of what we do.

The stump grinding is done on our own machines, and root pruning handles the roots that have found their way into paths and pipes. A block that needs land clearing gets taken back to bare ground. Every tree we take out is recycled into mulch, so you can buy your own tree back for the garden, or take a load off us anyway to keep the soil moist through the dry. There is a contract and commercial gardening side to the business as well, for keeping a garden or a common area in order. Quotes are free, a 20% non-refundable deposit is payable when you accept one, and the office will get someone out to look at the job.
