My family and I pulled up on the Capricorn Coast in 2022 after taking some time off to travel in the caravan, and the natural beauty of the area, the laid-back lifestyle and the friendly locals were enough to keep us here. I am Dice Farrugia, a second-generation qualified arborist with 15 years behind me, and Yeppoon Tree Services is what I launched once that well-earned break was over.

I spent four years training and studying to qualify while working for some of the largest arboriculture companies in Australia, then went out on my own as a contract climber before starting a tree service with my brother covering South East Queensland. We ran that for just shy of ten years and I worked every part of it, on the tools and managing the day to day operations. Along the way I have worked from North Queensland right down to South Australia, for state government departments, local councils, large building and civil construction companies, real estate businesses and a lot of homeowners.

All our tree pruning is carried out in accordance with Australian Standard AS 4373-2007, Pruning of Amenity Trees, which takes out the compromised and often dangerous branches while encouraging healthy growth in what stays. Where a tree only needs tidying up, our tree trimming thins a canopy out or lifts it where the branches have crowded in around the base. We also take on tree lopping to change the shape, size and density of a canopy for clearance around buildings and pathways, though it does put a tree under stress, so it is not something you want done too often.

On a tree removal we take the tree down in stages whatever its size, location or condition, then deal with the stump. You can have the debris carted off for a clean, clear site, or we can leave the mulch to break down for your gardens, or we will simply get the tree safely on the ground for you to clear yourself. Our stump grinding handles the old stumps along with the new, leaving a blank canvas to turf, concrete or plant something more desirable. We also install physical root barriers, so you can keep a tree without worrying about where its roots are heading next.

When a severe weather event is forecast we are usually on standby, ready to mobilise as soon as it is safe to move, and our 24 hour emergency service means someone will be with you as quickly as possible to make the area safe. We are contactable seven days, we carry $20 million in public liability cover, and we hold a high level of safety without compromising on work standards.
